Pop quiz: Do you know what your credit score is right now? If you’re looking to buy a house, you should.
But if you don’t, here’s how to find out!
1. Talk to your bank. Usually your bank will give you a free monthly credit check. These checks have no effect on your credit score, so you don’t have to worry about getting dinged for checking it.
2. Use an online service. There’s a ton of websites out there that will check your credit for you like NerdWallet and BankRate. Just make sure the site you’re using is legit before you put your personal info in.
3. There’s an app for that. Tools like Credit Karma have an app so you can check your score whenever, wherever. They update your score each week, so it’s super handy if you’re working to improve your credit.
If you check your score and don’t find yourself jumping for joy, worry not. There’s a lot of ways to improve it! Talk to your bank or your lender to find out which ways are best for you.
